Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, the premier hotel that’s conveniently located only 1,287 steps from the U.S. Capitol Building, announces the completion of its full-hotel renovation. In time for its 50th anniversary next year, the property updated its lavish guestrooms and suites, improved the expansive meeting and event spaces, enhanced the restaurant and bar, and re-envisioned the lobby, guest lounges and corridors throughout the property.
“We are thrilled to announce the completion of our nine-month transformation to provide international and domestic travelers and local residents with new, more refined accommodations, enhanced culinary experiences, and modernized conference and event spaces for meetings and groups,” said Randy Thompson, general manager of Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. “In celebration of our 50th year, the renovation reinforces the hotel’s legacy as the premier hotel and event center in the heart of Capitol Hill. The new modern style of the hotel also honors the artisanal vision and innovative design of the craftsman who originally planned and built the U.S. Capitol and the surrounding neighborhoods.”
The new design of the hotel is a testament to American craftmanship and ingenuity that captures the innovative spirit belonging to the original planners and architects of Capitol Hill. Their artistry is reflected in the transformation of the property from its guestrooms to meeting spaces showcasing the historical construction, repair and renovation of the Capitol. This innovative mindset has remained constant in the residents of Capitol Hill as politicians extend that spirit of ingenuity by crafting laws, deals and ideas much of which are discussed in the discreet corridors, luxurious lounges and vibrant restaurants of the property.
Accommodations
The hotel’s guestrooms have been elevated with enhanced amenities keeping guest comfort top of mind. All double bedrooms have been updated to include two queen beds, and most of the king rooms now feature brand-new sleeper sofas. As guests enter the new well-appointed guestrooms, they are greeted by warm wood tones of lumber contrasted against the darker flooring of rich polished woods often seen in Capitol Hill neighborhood homes. The room is fitted with black metal accents referencing the wrought iron fences that adorn the area’s historic row houses. The lush comfortable beds are complemented by metal rivet detailing along the headboard inspired by the intricate iron work used to design the Capitol dome. Next to the bed, the floor lamp resembles the iron beams of the city and the headboard sconces are modernized versions of antique lamps setting the stage for a relaxing evening. The art and furniture in the rooms reflect the city streets, row houses and the construction of the neighborhood. Each guestroom and suite incorporate the latest state-of-the-art technologies, including large 65-inch 4K smart ultra-HD flat-screen televisions and advanced charging ports. The accommodations will include spacious closets and modern bathrooms with enlarged vanities, showers and tubs.
Meetings and Events
With the largest ballroom on Capitol Hill and more than 38,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, the newly renovated hotel provides a premier setting for some of the most extravagant events and large and small meetings in Washington D.C. The renovation includes state-of-the-art technical facilities for corporate meetings and gatherings of all sizes, elegant events and celebrations. The meeting rooms carpet designs are inspired by the original lead windows of the local row house and the lighting design symbolizes the embrace of a handshake signifying a deal successfully made. Designed to host Washington D.C.’s most sophisticated functions, the Regency Ballroom is 11,388 square feet with textured metal lighting fixtures and a carpet design inspired by the geometric origins of the city with the Capitol Building at its center. The decorative trim complements the wood paneling found in neighborhood homes and the lighting and colors contribute to a modern and sophisticated ambience. The hotel also features mid-size and smaller event space for a more intimate gathering including the 3,588 square-foot Columbia Ballroom, six separate Congressional Rooms each offering 3,132 square-feet of space, the 3,048 square-foot Thornton Room offering floor-to-ceiling views of the U.S. Capitol, and other stunning spaces customizable for any event. The meeting and event spaces also provide in-house audiovisual support for all types of gatherings.
