The Atterbury Shines in Downtown Pittsburgh

August 7, 2026 · Edward Leos

Now open in downtown Pittsburgh, The Atterbury brings Marriott Bonvoy’s Autograph Collection to one of the city’s most recognizable architectural landmarks. Following RLJ Lodging Trust’s multi-million-dollar transformation of the historic Fulton Building, the 300-room hotel reimagines a 1906 masterpiece by renowned architect Grosvenor Atterbury, blending the building’s storied past with a sophisticated, design-forward experience for today’s traveler.
Located just steps from the PNC Park, Allegheny Riverfront, Market Square, and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, The Atterbury immerses guests in Pittsburgh’s rich history and vibrant culture. Inspired by its namesake’s belief that architecture should bring people, ideas, and experiences together, the hotel encourages exploration both within its thoughtfully designed spaces and throughout the surrounding neighborhood.
Led by Christine Shanahan of HVS Design, the interiors strike a balance between preservation and modern expression, pairing original architectural details with rich colors, layered textures, and residential-inspired finishes. At the heart of the hotel, a reimagined skywell and grand rotunda serve as a dramatic focal point, where an illuminated skylight, sweeping staircase, and marble interiors create an ever-changing interplay of light, shadow, and movement throughout the day.
An integrated art program further connects the hotel to Pittsburgh’s history and creative community. Inspired by Grosvenor Atterbury and his wife Estelle’s shared passion for the arts, the collection features portraits of the couple, collages that weave together the building’s history with the city’s evolution, and murals by local artists. Each elevator lobby celebrates a defining era of Pittsburgh, highlighting its steelmaking legacy, riverfront heritage, cultural landmarks, and artistic spirit.
The Atterbury is also a destination for dining and gathering. The Drafting Room, a contemporary American restaurant and bar inspired by the precision and creativity of an architect’s studio, serves seasonal, ingredient-driven cuisine alongside Pennsylvania craft beers, classic cocktails, and approachable wines. The Fulton Room offers an elegant lounge for casual meetings, evening cocktails, and social gatherings, while flexible event spaces overlooking the hotel’s dramatic rotunda and atrium provide an inspiring setting for corporate events, weddings, and celebrations.
Blending historic architecture with contemporary design, The Atterbury offers a distinctly Pittsburgh experience, one that honors the city’s past while inviting guests to discover its dynamic present through art, culture, dining, and thoughtful hospitality.
