Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Villas, the premier Texas Hill Country resort located on 300 acres in San Antonio, is celebrating the
completion of a more than $100 million resort transformation. The resort’s evolved design is the final stage of the multi-year renovation is marked by the debut of The Big Spring 2.2-acre lagoon, the waterfront Rancher Hall event venue, and state-of-the-art Toptracer Range™ golf bays – with a ranch-inspired ribbon-cutting using barbed wire on March 5. The transformation reflects the destination’s longstanding commitment and forward-thinking approach to meeting the changing needs of today’s modern travelers.
“After three years of enhancing our resort experience, we are proud to announce the completion of this extensive renovation project,” said Steve Smith, General Manager of Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Villas. “From the addition of Texas’ newest beach to standalone villas, every enhancement was designed to preserve the warm, welcoming atmosphere that defines our resort and inspires guests to return year after year. These updates represent our dedication of evolving with our customers and enhancing their experience on property.”
The multi-year renovation has elevated every aspect of the guest experience while continuing to honor the history of its location on the Rogers-Wiseman Ranch, a cattle ranch that operated for more than a century.
The Big Spring
The stunning human-made lagoon, the first lagoon powered by Crystal Lagoons® technology inside a central U.S. resort destination, transforms the resort into an idyllic beach paradise located right in the Texas Hill Country. The new recreational 2.2-acre lagoon known as The Big Spring will offer beautiful white sand beaches, premium cabanas, and a variety of fun water sports and activities.
“The opening of the lagoon marks an exciting new chapter for Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Villas and sets a new benchmark for resort experiences,” said Nicolás Galotti, Regional Director at Crystal Lagoons. “By incorporating a Crystal Lagoons® amenity as part of
its broader redevelopment, the resort is bringing beach life to Central Texas and creating a truly differentiated destination.”
The Big Spring, like every Crystal Lagoons® amenity, has cutting-edge sustainable technology that enables the development of world-renowned crystalline lagoons for people of all ages to enjoy. The water feature consumes only two percent of the energy needed by a conventional swimming pool filtration system – and it can use any water source, including seawater and even brackish water that is abundant and has no other use.
The addition of The Big Spring expands the resort’s existing five-acre water park which features a 900-foot lazy river designed to reflect a traditional Texas river float experience, multiple pools including an adults-only Texas-shaped pool, a two-story water slide, and a FlowRider® wave simulation machine.
Adjacent to The Big Spring sits the newly completed Aunt Di’s Comfort Station, the latest addition to the resort’s restaurant lineup. Aunt Di’s is inspired by and named in honor of a family member of the hotel’s developer and ownership group, Woodbine Development Corporation.
“Aunt Di has a unique gift of hospitality that makes everyone feel like they’re part of the family,” said King Scovell, Managing Partner and Chief Development Officer for Woodbine. “Her warmth creates a sense of belonging that we want to extend to every resort visitor.”
Rancher Hall Waterfront Event Venue
Overlooking The Big Spring sits the new Rancher Hall event venue. The indoor/outdoor space offers 5,600 square feet of flexible event space. The indoor space features high vaulted ceilings and exposed wood beams that create a rustic yet refined setting. It also offers oversized windows and glass doors filling the room with natural lighting and providing sweeping views of the new lagoon. Surrounded by majestic live oak trees, the venue opens to a patio and ceremony lawn overlooking the picturesque lagoon, perfect for a dream wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, or corporate function.
Premium Villa Experience
In the summer of 2025, the resort debuted five new standalone villas, each named after historic Hill Country rivers including Guadalupe, Nueces, Brazos, San Saba, and Pecos. Located away from the main resort building, every 2,336-square-foot villa features four bedrooms, including two king bedrooms and two rooms with double queen beds. Each of the four rooms offers a private en-suite bathroom with soaking tub and walk-in shower, a patio with outdoor seating, and upscale in-room amenities. Each villa features a fully equipped kitchen with a refrigerator, stove, microwave, espresso machine, dishwasher, stylish living and dining areas, and two private outdoor patios and a patio – perfect for enjoying a morning coffee, evening s’mores at the fire pit, or simply soaking in the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.
Guests staying in the villas receive exclusive amenities including twice-daily housekeeping service, a dedicated villa host, and access to the relaxing amenities at the adjacent Windflower Spa including a tranquil outdoor pool, a whirlpool, eucalyptus steam room, and sauna.
Luxurious Updates to Windflower Spa
Completed in 2025, Windflower – The Hill Country Spa underwent a renovation to elevate the luxurious, upscale barn-style retreat. The project added a 1,105 square-foot intimate event space, the Talpa room. Featuring floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the spa’s tranquil outdoor pool, the new venue provides a dedicated area for groups to meet, connect, and take part in wellness infused experiences and intentional gatherings.
Additionally, the spa pool was refinished and outfitted with new poolside lounge chairs, and the scenic outdoor relaxation area was updated with new landscaping and upgraded seating. The spa interior was updated with new fixtures, décor, artwork, and enhanced pedicure and manicure stations in the salon.
State-of-the-Art Toptracer Range™ at Hill Country Golf Club
Elevating the traditional driving range experience, 35 new Toptracer Range™ golf bays will become available at the resort’s Hill Country Golf Club – with 20 covered bays and 15 uncovered bays. Just footsteps from The Big Spring, the Toptracer Range™ golf bays offer a
lounge feel that lends perfectly to group and leisure events. Each of the bays is outfitted with a high-tech camera that tracks each ball using advanced analytics to determine speed, apex, curve, carry and more to provide real-time data on every shot. The individual data points are displayed on a giant LED screen in the bay helping golfers to perfect their swing. Guests can order delicious food and beverages to enjoy during play, or pre-book one of the “Par-tee” Packages which includes two hours of play time for small groups and food packages served right to your bay.
Ongoing Resort Enhancements
In 2023, the resort completed a full renovation of all guestrooms and suites, as well as interior event ballroom and meeting spaces. The updated guestrooms feature brand-new hardwood flooring, updated technology including 65-inch ultra-high-definition televisions, new walk-in showers with modern tilework, and artwork that reflects the resort’s history as the location of the Rogers Wiseman Ranch. The upgrades to our indoor spaces feature an updated style with a blend of soothing hues, textures and classic patterns. From new carpeting and wall coverings to upgraded lighting and sound systems, meeting planners and attendees now experience a lighter, brighter ambiance throughout the resort. The new design boasts a sophisticated aesthetic inspired by the surrounding landscape, while honoring the resort’s ranch heritage. Plus, a portion of rooms on the resort’s higher floors designated as “retreat” rooms, including the latest enhancements and
upgraded experiences such as access to a special pantry, personalized concierge service, and guaranteed late checkout.
In 2024, the resort also updated its on-site dining outlets including its signature steakhouse, Antlers Lodge restaurant, Cactus Oak Tavern, and Charlie’s Long Bar. The property also debuted a new indoor/outdoor bar concept called Woodbine Bar. Located in the lobby, the new
bar offers a sophisticated atmosphere serving a menu of signature cocktails that pay homage to the surrounding Hill Country region.
