Canoe Bay Celebrates 30th Anniversary; Offers Incentives

Canoe Bay

To commemorate three decades of  “get-away-from-it-all luxury,” Canoe Bay resort has unveiled a multimillion renovation and introduced a 30th Anniversary Package featuring a 30% savings on a third night with the booking of at least 2 consecutive nights and a complimentary room/cottage upgrade (when available), valid through December 31, 2024.

The resort is a former church camp that owner Dan Dobrowolski transformed into a world-class destination. He enlisted Frank Lloyd Wright protégé, John Rattenbury and noted Minneapolis-based architect Kelly Davis to design Prairie-style cottages that are sprinkled across a 300-acre forested country estate and around a glacially-sculpted lake.

Since then, couples seeking a rustic, private experience have traveled from around the country and now enjoy enhancements that include:

  • A multi-million dollar remodel of guest rooms and cottages with a continued focus on relaxation. Spa cottages now offer steam showers, saunas, whirlpools to complement the private decks, stone fireplaces, cedar wood interiors and two-person soaking tubs featured in all accommodations.
  • A new fitness center at The Lodge at Canoe Bay including treadmills, elliptical trainer, a spin bike, yoga mats and limited free weights.  The Lodge Library has also been expanded and features a canopied outdoor patio with lake views.
  • An expansion of the resort’s 3-acre organic garden, tended by master gardener John Nissen, a native of Denmark, who encourages guests to stroll the area and sample seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs he yields for Canoe Bay menus.  Also, an expansion and updating of the gardens in front of the Inn building is just being completed.

Canoe Bay Dream CottageThe resort is set in the northwoods near tiny Chetek, Wisconsin, located less than two hours from Minneapolis and six hours from Chicago. It is such a secluded getaway that visitors rely on written directions from the resort to find the hidden gem during the final 6 miles of the journey.

Canoe Bay is designed specifically for couples (no children, no pets), especially those celebrating anniversaries, birthdays and honeymoons, with accommodations scattered in private areas on the resort grounds around the private lake for maximum seclusion.

Meals are delivered to guest doorsteps in wooden baskets handcrafted by local Mennonite artisans with dinner served in the Lakeside Dining Room where many guests encounter each other for the first and only time.

“In our current world, people are desperate for peace, privacy and time to reconnect,” says Dobrowolski. “For 30 years, Canoe Bay has delivered great food, serene tranquility, and unforgettable memories. We’re excited to welcome guests to enjoy many more decades unplugging and enriching their souls in nature and on the water. There may be many beautiful places in the world but only one Canoe Bay.”
